Lady Houdini

Among the wives of famous magicians surely there is the one of Harry Houdini. Although she was also an illusionist and assistant in her husband’s shows, first of all she was a wife

In this photograph of 1907, the way she looks at her escapological husband is self-descriptive. I would rather like to emphasize the blank stare of his elderly mother, submitted for years to the tricks of her beloved son who she has never managed to say no to.

Even this second picture shows Bess’ mood, in particular an expression of somebody patient and resigned, who has devoted her life to holiness, and underneath is thinking “I can’t stand him anymore!”
